Train
up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from
it.
Spend
some time with your children or your spouse (significant other). Instead of
talking; just listen. Ask them to tell you about their day or week and really
listen to them. Ask clarifying questions. Active listening involves you giving
eye contact and tuning out other distractions. Give your full attention to
listen today. Listening to others gets your more involved into another’s world.

Lord
God, thank you for giving me a listening ear. Allow me to also hear Your Holy
Spirit, which gives me discernment. I love you, Lord.
